Silly September

Well, September was just hectic  crazy awesome. Full of colour and smiles and everything I thought Brasil would be to be honest. So many festivals to welcome in Spring time! Although one of the festivals was with Rotary, I didn't mind, it was beautifully amazing and reminded me of Floriade in Canberra, Australia.

Festival das Flores - Holumbra

So on the 5th of September (I think, I can't remember) Rotary whisked us all off to Holumbra, a small settlement about four hours out of Sao Paulo city, originally settled by the Danish and Hollander people. Every year in September to welcome in Spring they hold the annual, three day event "FESTIVAL DAS FLORES" and it is amazing. The colours, displays and friendliness of the people shouldn't go unnoticed. Although it is mainly a flower festival, there is strong connections back to peoples Danish heritage in the area (and alot of food and drink stalls).

And, Rotary being Rotary, at the end of the day there was a big parade, and, of course, being exchange students, we participated.

Tour guide told me to be accepted or to work in this retirement home, a person has to be able to speak Danish as well as Portuguese as many residents get Alzheimer's and revert back to native language skills.

Holi One - Festival das Cores

Holy shizz-balls. This day was awesome. So much colour and 'grass' and whiskey floating through the air. Traditionally, the Hoil One festival originated in India (correct me if I'm wrong) but has now become an international event with colour runs and colour festivals appearing all over the world using specially imported coloured flour for the occasion. Twas a good day.

Like a sir.
